Location of Position: Washington, DC

Telework: Four days per pay period (two days per week). This position is not remote eligible.

Appointment Type: This is an excepted service, time-limited, initial appointment, not-to-exceed two years and six months, with the potential for two two-year extensions.

Salary: $107,657 – $158,097 per year

This FSL-03 Environment Officer will support the work of the Chief Climate Officer while embedded in, and contributing to the work of, CCPD. This includes supporting the Agency’s participation in the annual United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of Parties (COP) and CCPD’s program coordination responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Agency’s Chief Climate Officer in intra-agency, interagency, and external engagements, thought pieces, and oversight of Agency’s Climate Strategy implementation;
  • Supporting policy and program analyses and coordination, and advancing Agency priorities;
  • Leading coordination of USAID’s engagement related to climate change in UNFCCC COP, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), and other major fora;
  • Supporting USAID’s achievement of, and reporting on, high-impact results in USAID-presence countries and in coordination with Department of State; and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen;
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level FSL-04 of this position, preferably specialized experience in communications, policy, or programmatic work related to climate and development;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate abstract and complex technical subject matter to non-technical audiences;
  • Demonstrated ability to design, manage, and coordinate work streams involving large amounts of data and/or multiple steps, organizations, and staff;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively and engage effectively in a team environment;
  • Experience with USAID is a plus; and Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
